Budai Port is Chiayi County’s main gateway to Penghu. With a crossing time of about 75 minutes, it is one of the shortest and most frequently served ferry connections from Taiwan’s main island to Penghu. The active fleet comprises Yunbao, Mantianxing No. 1/2, Kaixuan No. 3/6 and Taiji Star No. 1/2, operated on a rotating schedule by two groups — Baili Shipping (running Yunbao) and a joint-service pool (running Mantianxing, Kaixuan and Taiji Star); check ferry.tw for the day’s scheduled sailings. For residents of Chiayi or travelers who prefer not to travel south to Kaohsiung or Tainan, Budai Port is the most convenient departure point. Fares start at NT$1,000, rising to around NT$1,200 during peak season and public holidays.
Ferry Schedule
During the peak season (April to October), approximately 5 sailings operate daily. The first departure is around 07:00 and the last around 16:30, with additional sailings possible during public holidays or the summer fireworks festival. From November to March, northeast monsoon conditions reduce or suspend sailings depending on sea state; a limited number may still operate subject to weather. Refer to ferry.tw or each operator’s live announcements for the current daily timetable and seat availability. Booking 3–7 days in advance via ferry.tw or directly with operators is recommended, as peak-season holiday sailings fill up quickly.
