The Shagang Loop (Route 0766) is operated by the Penghu County Public Vehicles Administration. Buses depart from Magong Main Station and pass Huimin Hospital, Beichen Market, the Cultural Center, Magong Senior High School, the Meat Market, and Dongwei before heading along Zhongyang Road into Huxi Township, serving Anzhai, Xujia, Zhiqing Junior High School, and Dingwan. After reaching Shagang, the bus may take branches through Tanbian, Chenggong, and Dongshi depending on the trip, then returns to Magong Main Station along the same route. The service mainly caters to commuters, students, and elderly residents from the northeastern villages of Huxi travelling into Magong for work, school, or medical appointments.
Route Highlights
The loop design lets a single trip cover several small villages in northeastern Huxi. Rather than following a fixed path, each trip takes different branches based on demand: some serve the four Tanbian stops (Inner, Outer, East, and West) for Tanbian village, some extend to Youku Stop, Dongshi Stop, and Chenggong Tianjun Temple so residents of Chenggong fishing village can reach Magong for medical care, and others simply turn around at Shagang East Stop or Shuiku Stop. Along the way, Shagang is known for its traditional basalt houses, Shagang Tianhou Temple, and quiet fishing harbor, while Chenggong is known for its wave-cut platforms and clusters of old houses — both are local spots worth visiting if you want to avoid the tourist crowds in Magong.
When to Ride
On weekdays, the 6:50 AM and 7:20 AM trips are the main services for local students and workers, and buses are often full of commuters. For a more relaxed trip to Shagang or Chenggong, the 9:50 AM or 11:55 AM departures avoid peak times. The 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM trips handle the afternoon return peak, the 5:40 PM and 6:25 PM services suit Huxi residents heading home in the evening, and the 9:05 PM final trip serves late-shift workers. In the reverse direction, the single 6:00 AM trip from Shagang East Stop to Magong Main Station is the only direct service for Shagang residents heading into town for medical or work appointments; miss it and you will need to transfer to another route. In winter, northeasterly monsoon winds can lengthen travel times along the coastal branches through Chenggong and Dongshi, so allow extra time for connections.
