The Longmen Line (Route 0774) is a large city loop bus service operated by the Penghu County Public Transportation Management Office. Departing from Magong Terminal, it heads northeast along County Road 204, passes through villages along the northern coast and eastern side of Huhsi Township, and reaches Longmen terminus before turning south and returning to Magong — completing a full clockwise loop. Along the way it calls at Huimin Hospital, Magong Senior High School, Penghu Airport, Aimen Beach, Lintou Park, and the Cai Tinglan Jinshidi historic residence, making it one of the most-used routes for Huhsi residents commuting to medical appointments, airport passengers travelling into the city centre, and independent travellers connecting sights across eastern Penghu Island.
Route Highlights
Route 0774’s defining characteristic is that a single line covers both commuter and tourism demand. The urban section links Magong’s schools and Penghu Hospital; the eastern section runs past Penghu Airport, Aimen Beach, and the Lintou seaside park before going deeper into Huhsi villages. Certain departures extend to Beiliao and Qingluo, while April–September services add runs to Longmen Ferry Waiting Hall to connect with island-hopping ferries to Qimei and Wang-an. In winter the route maintains its basic loop, as demand for offshore ferry connections drops during the northeast monsoon season.
Because this is a loop route, the same bus number may appear multiple times at stops near Magong Terminal. Always check the destination board on the front of the bus — “To Longmen” or “Return to Magong” — to avoid riding the long way around.
Best Time to Travel
The 6:50 AM and 7:45 AM weekday departures are peak commuter runs, carrying students and local residents; passengers with large luggage are advised to avoid these times. Visitors heading to Aimen Beach, Lintou Park, or Guoye for the sunrise should take the 8:50 AM or 10:20 AM departure, and consider the 2:35 PM or 4:10 PM service for the return to avoid crowding on the last bus.
Travellers in summer (June–September) who want to catch a ferry to Qimei or Wang-an should first confirm whether that day’s schedule includes a Longmen Ferry Waiting Hall extension, and aim to arrive at the pier at least 30 minutes before departure. During winter the northeast monsoon brings strong winds around Guoye and Longmen; a windproof jacket is recommended while waiting at stops in these areas.
Stops Along the Route
Leaving Magong Terminal, the first few stops — Huimin Hospital and Beichen Market — serve residents heading to medical appointments and daily shopping. The stretch from Yangming stop to Magong Senior High School passes the County Cultural Centre and several schools; student ridership peaks during school hours, making this a typical urban commuter corridor. Past the Taiwan Power Company stop, the route turns northeast into a coastal stretch through the northern fishing villages of Dongwei and Chenggong, with open views over the northern Penghu Sea.
Entering the interior of Huhsi Township, the bus calls at Huhsi Junior High School, Huhsi Household Registration Office, Huhsi Farmers’ Association supermarket, and Huhsi Elementary School — the administrative and community services hub of the township. Traditional temples and morning market stalls are scattered throughout; on weekday mornings the area is lively with local activity. Continuing south toward Nanliao, the landscape opens up; the Guoye area is known for its sunrise views, and early-morning passengers often alight here to wait for dawn.
The southbound return leg from Longmen is the most scenic stretch of the entire route: the giant chimney of Jianshan Power Plant serves as an easy landmark, the road between Lintou East stop and Lintou Park stop runs beneath dense shade trees, and the bus then calls at Aimen Beach and Penghu Airport before entering the villages of Xingren and Caiyuan in southern Penghu. Historic settlements and modern military facilities sit side by side — a snapshot of the island’s layered geography.
Sights Along the Way
The Aimen Beach stop is the entrance to the well-known crescent beach at Aimen Bay, less than a 3-minute walk from the bus stop. In summer, surfboard and kayak rentals are available on the beach; freshwater foot-washing facilities are provided at the far end. This is the most popular alighting point on the Longmen Line for independent travellers. After a visit, you can re-board the next bus to Lintou Park stop and walk the casuarina-lined trail down to the rocky shoreline — at low tide the intertidal zone reveals a variety of marine life.
Back in Magong, a roughly 5-minute walk from Magong Terminal brings you to Zhongyang Old Street, Siyanjing (Four-Eyes Well), and Tianhou Temple. The Qing-dynasty stone well, the Mazu temple, and the rows of souvenir shops are concentrated in one of Penghu’s oldest streetscapes — allow about 40 minutes to explore at a relaxed pace. If you are returning in the evening, consider alighting at Magong Commercial Harbour stop and walking along the Guanyin Pavilion Waterfront Park promenade; the sunset over Magong Harbour and the silhouette of Fisherman Island (Xiyu) in the distance make for one of the city’s most rewarding free views.
