The Wukan Line (route number 0765, commonly signposted as Route 11) is a one-way loop bus operated by the Penghu County Public Bus Service. It departs Magong Main Station, runs through downtown Magong via Huimin Hospital, Beichen Market, Wen’ao, and Anshan to reach the Tri-Service General Hospital Penghu Branch, then cuts through the Qianliao and Caiyuan villages on the east side of Magong, passes Tsai Ting-lan Mansion, arrives at Xingren and Wukan, and detours into the Aimen New Village area of Huxi Township and Penghu Airport. It then retraces its path and loops back to Magong Main Station via the County Government, Penghu Hospital ER, Penghu Hospital, and Magong Commercial Port — around 60 stops in total. The line serves a dual role: it handles commuter traffic to Magong’s three major hospitals and connects the city to Penghu Airport. It is one of the few services that links downtown Magong with the airport in a single ride.
Route highlights: old villages and the airport in one loop
The defining feature of this line is its one-way loop — a single bus circles the southeastern half of Magong and Penghu Airport in a fixed order, rather than running bi-directionally like most Penghu routes. Along the way, Tsai Ting-lan Mansion (stop 21) is the former residence of Tsai Ting-lan, the first person from Penghu to earn the jinshi degree (the highest level of the Qing imperial examination, which he passed in 1844 during the Daoguang reign). Located in Xingren Village, the mansion was designated a county-level historic monument in 1988 and reopened to the public after restoration in 2013; admission is free, but on-site management is contracted out and opening days are not fixed — check with the Penghu County Cultural Affairs Bureau (or call 06-9213822) before visiting. The villages of Caiyuan, Xingren, and Wukan retain many traditional coral-stone (basalt) houses and temple buildings. Wukan Jinghai Temple, founded in 1737 (Qianlong era), enshrines Wenheng Dijun (Lord Guan) as its principal deity together with the Wang Ye lords surnamed Zhao, Kang, Yan, Ye, and Chi; it holds the “Qianqiu Baojian” Welcoming-the-Kings procession on a three-year cycle, with annual dates published by the temple and the cultural bureau.
For everyday transport, Route 0765 serves three groups at once: residents travelling to Huimin Hospital, Tri-Service Penghu Branch, and Penghu Hospital (including the ER); travellers heading to or from Penghu Airport; and visitors exploring Tsai Ting-lan Mansion, Xingren Reservoir, and the Wukan coastline. For independent travellers who prefer not to rent a scooter, it is one of the few bus options that covers the full southeastern village belt of Magong in a single loop.
Fares and boarding rules
- Fare: NT$19 (full) / NT$10 (concession), flat rate regardless of distance. EasyCard, iPASS, and other contactless stored-value cards are accepted.
- Termini: As a loop route, both the start and end point is Magong Main Station.
- Penghu Hospital ER stop: Skipped after 12:00 PM on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays. Avoid those times if you need this stop, or take another route to Penghu Hospital.
- 4:25 PM service (11B): May not operate on weekends, public holidays, or during school breaks — TDX ServiceDay shows all 7 days, but confirm with the operator before relying on this trip.
When to ride
With only 6 runs per day, timing needs to be planned in advance:
- 7:05 AM (11): First bus. Works well for an early flight or an early hospital appointment.
- 9:05 AM (11A): The most popular service with visitors. It reaches Tsai Ting-lan Mansion and Wukan around 9:40 AM, which matches when the village sites open.
- 1:20 PM (11E): The early-afternoon run. Useful for an afternoon flight out or an afternoon clinic at Penghu Hospital.
- 4:25 PM (11B): The main after-school and after-work bus. TDX ServiceDay shows it scheduled every day of the week; if your trip falls on a public holiday or school break, call the Penghu County Public Vehicles Administration on 06-9213822 in advance to confirm operation.
- 5:45 PM (11C): An early-evening run, suited to returning from the airport or for commuters.
- 8:45 PM (11D): The last bus, important for passengers arriving on late-evening flights at Penghu Airport. A delayed flight can easily cause you to miss it, so keep a taxi option as backup.
Sights along the way and seasonal notes
For a day of sightseeing using Route 0765, the 9:05 AM run is a good choice: get off at Tsai Ting-lan Mansion or Xingren Reservoir for a walk, continue on foot to Wukan village to visit Wukan Jinghai Temple and the coast, then board at Wukan Upper or Aimen New Village for lunch near Penghu Airport. On the way back, stay on the same bus for the second half of the loop and get off at the County Government or Magong Commercial Port to head into the city centre.
From November to March, the northeast monsoon is strong, and the Wukan and Aimen area — facing the east coast — often sees winds at Beaufort force 9 or above along with persistent cold rain. Morning trips and an extra windproof layer are recommended in winter. If your schedule allows, May to September is the best stretch for walking tours of the villages.
