Gangzi Baoding Temple

Gangzi Baoding Temple is a bus stop on Penghu’s west-coast loop, roughly 10 km southwest of Magong. Three routes call here — the Shagang Line (0758), the Tongliang Line (0762), and the Magong–Tongliang–Wai-an night service (0798). This stop is a key access point for Tongliang Banyan Scenic Area, Wai-an fishing village, and the surrounding coastal areas, and is the last major bus stop heading west along the loop from Magong. Early-morning travelers typically depart here for the western loop; afternoon services take passengers back to Magong city center. Gangzi Baoding Temple is a convenient gateway to Penghu’s southwestern attractions.

Location

Gangzi Baoding Temple sits on Penghu’s west-coast loop, with the temple building serving as the bus stop landmark. The temple is within the Gangzi community, and the surrounding area retains the character of a traditional Penghu settlement, with farmland and coastal scenery interspersed. About 10 minutes on foot to the north is the entrance to Tongliang Banyan Scenic Area — the banyan tree there, over 300 years old, is one of Penghu’s best-known natural sights, with branches covering over 2,300 m², attracting visitors year-round. Heading south along Route 0758, a 15–20 minute ride leads into Wai-an fishing village, which developed along the bay and is known for its seaside scenery, local seafood, and fishing-village character — one of the most popular southwestern destinations for independent travelers in Penghu. This stop is also the last point where westbound services from Magong are relatively concentrated; beyond here, buses to Wai-an, Xiyu, and other destinations become noticeably less frequent.

Travel Tips

Bus services at Gangzi Baoding Temple are relatively infrequent compared to stops in Magong city center or at the main terminal. Travelers heading to the west-loop attractions in the morning can take early departures: Route 0758 Shagang Line (departing Magong Bus Terminal at 6:55 AM, arriving here around 7:20 AM) goes directly to Wai-an, or Route 0762 Tongliang Line (departing Magong Bus Terminal at 6:35 AM, arriving around 7:06 AM) heads to Tongliang Banyan. For later or evening travel, Route 0798 night service (departing Magong at 8:30 PM) is an option. On the return, the last Route 0758 passes around 9:18 PM, Route 0762 around 5:47 PM, and the final Route 0798 as late as 10:16 PM. Given the limited schedule, check the current timetable on this page before planning your trip. During winter, northeast monsoon winds can be strong along the coast and buses may run 10–15 minutes late; wet weather also slows services, so checking real-time updates before departure is advisable.
